This is the main thing that concerns me. “Since the introduction of genetically modified crops, herbicide sales have increased by almost 200 per cent in Canada.
Traces of these chemicals end up in the food we eat. Between 2015 and 2016, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency found nearly one third of tested food samples contained glyphosate residues, the key ingredient of many herbicide products.”
Some say just wash your food.
I wish it was that simple. Glyphosate still gets into the plants, us and elsewhere in the environment that impact us.
The worst is desiccating or pre harvest use of glyphosate or similar to kill the plants and accelerate the harvest.
These methods increase yields but there are safer methods to do this.
Monsanto has done such an effective job marketing glyphosate as ‘safe’ and ‘biodegradable’ that farmers here still believe this even though such claims are false.”
It estimated over 20 billion pounds of it has been used sincec1974. Some countries in Europe have banned its use or are phasing it out and the EU will be doing so by 2023. Hopefully Canada and the US follow suit sooner rather than later but I do not think it will be a priority.
