MPIC claimed this further rate hike was due to them estimating the interest rate would be higher and poor investment results.
The real reasons are the same as they were during the last hike that the PC’s opposed when the NDP were in power and previous hikes. Out of control spending on much higher than average salaries, benefits, pensions and management to staff ratio especially for many senior positions not even needed. Some of these are $120,000 to almost $300,000 per year before pension, benefits and expense accounts.
Now the PC’s are in power they are ignoring the same issues.
Don’t be fooled into thinking you are lucky to have public insurance and it cheaper. Private or better managed public insurance can be much cheaper and better coverage for lower risk drivers. This along with effective driver education encourages better driving behavior more than unfair or unlawful enforcement.
To make matters worse:
MPIC diverting $ Millions to Police to counter budget increases less than requested and for $afety initiatives most of which are a waste and actually putting the public at risk.
They are also spending significant amounts of money on safety propaganda with false and misleading stats to try and justify funding police for ticket and demerit drives. All the while ignoring the known and dangerous deficient traffic engineering that are the cause of the vast majority of accidents, injuries and violations.
They allowing the Checkstop program to be hijacked so revenue is the real focus.
They choosing to do this to try and support the bloated administration and overspending instead of making the necessary cuts and provide more effective driver training and education which proven to be the best way to reduce collisions and claims.
For more on this and much more including what you can do about this see others posts from me:
Public Versus Private Auto Insurance
More people need to stand up to this. The PC’s are asking public sector unions to find savings or risk cuts and they need to be told to do the same for Crown corps. Ask them why they have changed their tune and when they will address MPIC misusing these funds.
