Depending on where they live or travel some Truck owners should lock their tailgate if they can or consider installing a lock or deterent if they can’t.
Locks are available that can be keyed to match ignition key or cheaper alternatives.
Thiefs are stealing them and selling them to criminals that have sources in the repair industry.
Inexpensive deterent is a hose clamp on the side that can be unhinged or slightly more expensive and secure lock. See videos below.
If you want to help address the root cause (the buyers and lack of Police focus on serious crime (violent, property and organized) because it doesn’t pay directly (short sited)). Contact your elected representatives to demand our Police focus more on preventing, investigating and solving serious crime so Winnipeg not one of the worst in Canada. Instead of jumping out from bushes, hiding in bus stops, parking unlawfully and other unfair and unlawful traffic enforcement.
It proven distracted driving and other unlawful driver behaviour is best tackled by education and training and only suplemented by lawful enforcement not the other way around.
