Missing my Dad and wish I had appreciated my parents more and earlier

It’s been over 7 months since my step dad Dave lost his battle with cancer and I still think of him often.  He continues to help me when I need it by forcing me to try something different when in the past I would just call him when I was stumped.

I would call him partly because he always liked to help and partly because he often had the answer that even the internet didn’t have.  I hope I have the knowledge and experience he had when I am 69.

I didn’t appreciate my parents enough till I was about 30 and wish I hadn’t waited so long to learn more from them.  I try and explain this to my teenagers but I fear it is in one ear and out the other to make room for things they feel are more important.  I guess they too may have to learn the hard way as sometimes this is the only way it sinks in.  I guess this is part of life’s journey and we can only lead by example till they are ready to follow and hopefully learn from our mistakes and their own.
