Two Wolves
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’
The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’
Why did I add this here today? Because today, as we read about all the things going on in our country and others around the world we are going to be torn about where to put our attention.
Let’s keep our attention where it will do the most good. "Attend" to your work, family, friends and home. Make those areas grow with your attention. Feed the wolf you want to keep in your life.
I have been feeding the wrong wolf lately and it took this to get me to start feeding the other.
I owe this to my cousin Kathy who posted this on facebook, thx cuz!
I think we need the wisdom of our elders more these days than ever and need to pass this on to our children and grandchildren and so on.
I told this story to my wife and kids today in the context of something one of their aboriginal ancestors likely said (explaining what that was). After this I said I have been feeding the bad wolf lately and apologized to them. I said I would feed the good wolf and asked them which wolf they wanted to feed.
If I see angry behaviour etc.. in the future I may ask them which wolf they are choosing to feed. Same goes with me.
Bye for now,
Kevin
